Remember that Canada is Not off Trump's Take Over list.
We have to share a border with the US.
The Danes just said no more Ozempic and won. So clever. ;-)
Canada was the first under attack and still is. We have even stronger Allies & Agreements now.
All of NATO -1 supports Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark, supports the UK, the EU and AU, NZ, Commonwealth Countries, Asia, Arctic Countries.
Davos was so important as our Prime Minister declared.
Reread/relisten Mr. Carney's speech.
Review the response both there and world wide.
I see just from Substack how intolerant, name called and foul mouthed some are across the air waves.
You are at war.
US citizens have to rethink how they want to be. Your systems have been cracking at the seams under the strain and why?
No Prime Minister can bypass or over-rule what Parliament has voted for.
There are no Executive Orders.
We have several parties in the House. Not 2. Any number can make lousy choices true. It's harder and they steal each other's ideas lol that tend to make policies better.
I think that your institutions need serious review, study scrutiny and reform. They haven't withstood the blows so well.
Amendment reforms &/or restructuring to be what was promised in a bygone era.
Why Executive Orders?
How well did they help you in covid?
Yes. We have the Emergency Measures Act. It is for Extreme and Dangerous situations. There must be debate over its use, for what, how long and so on. Covid saw its use federally and provincially. Toronto asked the province to amend the lifting of certain restrictions due to the population size and movement. Ontario agreed after debate for certain permissions for a given time period and review. We were all told clearly and many times from multiple trusted sources. At times some wild policy decisions were outright challenged by Civil Libertarian groups that let us the citizens know. We stood up to be heard, & won. (ieCanadians who left Canada at the height of covid might not be let back in! Horrifying! Never flew as this Right was upheld after its planned amendments were challenged). I am not a constitutional expert nor an expert of any kind so this will not have all of the details etc and while based on facts, these are my opinions.
That's all but there's a crisis in your country and world wide made by your pres.
For us, it was a bit scary. Swallowed a lot. I don't know our Billof Rights & our Constitution very well. It did not feel comfortable. It had to be.
Remember Lock Down?
wasn't it peaceful, quieter, the air cleaner, less light pollution, easier to hear the birds and trees rustling?
Any and all rights were restored as numbers of the ill and mortality rates decreased.
Vote with knowledge and thoughtfulness. What's news and views from other countries: BBC, CBC, CTV, Al Jezeerah English etc and from different parts of those countries if like Canada there are several regional stations for CBC, CTV, Global. Watch a national series like 'North of North' on CBC Gem. You can learn a lot and grow.I watched the Finnish 'Borderlands'
(subtitles or dubbing) Ok you won't catch me going for a dip in a thick wetsuit in freezing water like they do. Crazy. I learnt a lot about what they value, how they interact, their decor, attitudes, food, saunas everywhere. I watch a lot of real documentaries and try for different docs on the same subject.
I am appalled by the hyped violence and weapons as if normal, in US movies. The lack of control on some panels, talk shows and social media. All looking like Botox Barbies.
All this stuff absorbed by us and children. The end justifies the means? No.
That is not Peace and Freedom.
Change offensive names. Squaw is highly derogatory and never used here for place names, birds, roads etc. I saw a photo of a former pres.back in the day at a Squaw Island!!! The name is long gone I hope. If not change it.
It's deeply offensive to indigenous women, any women and society. I'm not indigenous-over the years I've found it hurtful & demeaning.
People in high places once highly honoured from other eras have been reassessed (in Canada)for the impact of their actions and the policies they supported if extreme. This has led in some cases to streets, public buildings governmental, schools etc renamed, honours removed.
Z who you always chose to support politically could be dead wrong now for your next election, for what you know deep in your heart is best for those you know and love.
That will support the best for you, your neighbourhoods and country.
It is Your Vote. It is your private choice and knowledge. No one has the right to know how you voted. Vote. Make sure that you exercise the most powerful Right of all. Vote. You owe it to you. You owe it to those in the past that worked to create a better future.
You don't owe them if they did not.
You can change your church, club, town if deep down they do not align with the best values.
Vote.
You owe it to your children and the future of your country and the world. Safety, Moderation, Non-Violence,
Tolerance
(you don't have to like or accept everything or everyone but be tolerant),
Obligations and Duty to diligently support your best Rights and Freedoms. Work to change those that are not. Call that representative's office and let them know courteously what you want to see happen and why.
I do not usually vote for a certain party, but I do if it will do the best job for me, my child, and the greatest number for the greatest good. I've been right. I've been wrong.
I've spoken up, I've donated, volunteered, I've marched, I've written. Just like you.
I always Vote.
When my son turned 18, one day it hit me hard. He was in school, playing soccer, going to a Yu Gi Oh club.
At 18, my Dad was fighting in a World War. (WWll 1939-1945).
He was humbly proud of all of his medals, early seen.
His most prized medal was that for Volunteering.
That was Freedom.
His campaign medals for Italy and The Netherlands were for the Obligations and Duty of the Free.
The very least that I can do is Vote and make sure that my son Votes ( he must ;) ). We owe my father, my mother who saved aluminum, rubber bands, put up preserves, thought of new ways to reuse things, donated clothing, volunteered with the Red Cross, got by with rationing,
as did our sovereign nation, with many, many more.
As far as I can see, there is no one else to do it but You. )βπ»
I missed it . I meant rarely . His medals rarely seen. Remembrance Day. Even then he didn't wear them. They brought back too much pain and all there was left were pieces of metal on ribbons. Thinking towards war and the military had changed. It wasn't about a glorious uniform and fulfilling childhood dreams anymore for the men or the public. It wasn't a fun way to see new countries. My mother didn't understand this and little kids don't, just chaos, although her 2 brothers went and came back ( one was stationed in Newfoundland lol). She actually thought as he was artillery and didn't fight to door that he saw little devastation-it was more like the buoyant commentary of the newsreels of the time. He had shell shock all of his life. A living hell for him and us.
We cannot really understand as we weren't there. We don't even have that kind of warfare anymore. After the almost indenting suffering of Gen Romeo Dallaire in Rwanda, ptsd became more open, acceptable, not cowardice, discussed, supported, treated as never before.
phone number 988.
Dad was a private that's it. He suffered from shell shock all of his life. That meant that we did. It's like alcoholic behaviours-the rages, yelling, threats, violence, always anxiety and fear -usually without alcohol.
My parents took us to a family resort in the Kawarthas in the summer Im the early 1950's.They had a teen who had games for us in the morning.
I don't remember much but they met a beautiful family from Pittsburg, PA. They kept the connection for decades. Don had been a GI. Unlike my Dad he took the free university offer, became a chemistry grad and worked at a huge glass factory researching glass. They had some huge chunks of it. Truly fascinating. He and my Dad could relate as my Dad rarely could win an ex soldier. The Legions were different right after the war, filled with drunk men that my Dad couldn't relate to. He'd seen it in the war. The guys who drank aftershave. Maybe other Legions were much different. I think they were going to be more like a club for gentlemen. They changed greatly over time to be the great fundraisers and Vet supporters that they were and are.
So he and Don could hang out together and with their wives.
I wrote his daughter Susan offering condolences and tiny stories. Mom told me that he had passed away. I guess I saw her in the Kawarthas. I remember being there when 5 as I got sick and slept in the councillor's bed until noon. I had seen her in Pittsburgh once and her parents a few times over the years. I was honoured that she invited me to attend. His funeral was in 2015 in Gainsborough, Fla. I had never been to the States alone.
I met her again when I was in a bus trip to Boston with my son. The ocean. Such a charming town. Loved it. We spent time together while my son went to Salem. Sad to miss it but so great seeing her. She had been a chem tech and a true artist as in the Museum of Fine Art level. I hadn't understood that. I didn't know that other than depression I had raging ADHD -H. Just because there is free health care diesnt mean that you're assessed correctly or properly. That was missed. So no meds just infinite struggle. I misread a lot of the signals. We had a nice time. Sometimes she replies. She did at first. Photos. I'm not an artist nothing really, true, no hidden skills in a workshop, no real hobbies and civic ones and hiking clubs sort of start to disappear as a senior.
I didn't really and couldn't inherit it from our home life as it was.
They took trips to Pittsburgh and came back with Pennsylvanian Dutch things. The border was easy. There were no czars.
The thing is that Don (and both wives who were lovely, warm and knowing- the first was highly artistic and died too young) was warm, empathetic, friendly, kind and I think humble.
I can't thank GI Don enough for letting us in and being a rock for my parents and especially my Dad. Those were the happiest years that they had. The world was recovering and optimistic for a few years. Armageddon was missed by a whisker. It all changed.
We moved from the postwar suburb into the city. Life was never the same again. I saw Don & lovely wife once after that, invited by my parents. She took me aside as they talked, and she looked me in the eyes and saw, me. I didn't see me. I registered her deep empathy & care as she gave me a lovely pair of tiny turquoise stud earrings that treasure to this day. I keep them in a mid-yellow, heart shaped, ceramic box and look at them often. I have told Susan. I should be less rough as a diamond to twist the phrase, but that would have meant that I missed the mill stones, that my brothers and sister basically did much better than me. I guess she saw too many edges. She was kind in Boston. She spent her time with me. So terrific. There was covid and now trade wars so no US trips for me. An amazing legacy that I saw a bit of as Don and his first wife opened a door. I went to school one day there. Couldn't figure out why there wasn't a Union Jack in the class as it was s much the same. ) it was warm and sunny flowers were out everywhere just like Easter-time in the Golden Books! One of my younger brothers tried swinging on a huge vine across a wide ditch just like everyone else, such a thrill but he hit a tree. Hospital.Heard it was great! No free health care then up here either. No coloured water either that oddly I wasn't allowed to see.
So there we are, so very similar, then. I didn't feel like I was in a strange country. I was 8 or 9.
All was alright with the world as far as I could see. We were very, very fortunate to have met them. I might not hear, but they made my family more bearable through those years.
Don was like moss, like that slightly bumpy kind that is a soft bright green with fine, dark red whiskers here and there. It's everywhere but not always noticed, but, there.
It's not glaring for attention, not obvious but you do turn to notice as it's so remarkable and so very, very comfortable.
Thank you GI Don of the bluey green chunks of ice bergs of glass in his home.
Unusual. Steady, holding the course, remarkable, calm and respected by all.
You are in my memories what your country needs to become. ποΈ
I cannot believe that they would hold up signs to support ICE! They need to be hurt and feel the pain that the public is experiencing. Then they will understand what inequality feels like.
You need to be shipped to China so you can see what a communist country is truly like!!! Liberal women have severe mental illness along with no intellectual capacity!!!
Absolutely beautiful! Fuck ICE!
