Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and the Epstein investigation has reached a strangely familiar stage: the people asking for answers keep showing up, while some of the people with answers keep finding the exit.
Take billionaire Leon Black. Black sat for a congressional interview in June, but the questioning ended amid a dispute involving nondisclosure agreements. Congress subpoenaed those NDAs and ordered Black back for another deposition. When September 3 arrived, Black didn’t show, withheld the subpoenaed NDAs and sued the committee instead. Black denies involvement in Epstein’s crimes and argues that Congress is overreaching.
There is a rather large reason Congress wants him back. The committee says Black paid Jeffrey Epstein at least $158 million after Epstein was already a registered sex offender. Black has said those enormous payments were for legitimate tax and estate-planning services. On Tuesday, House Oversight recommended contempt charges against Black for failing to comply with its subpoena. The matter would still have to move beyond the committee.
And while Congress is trying to get answers about Epstein’s old relationships, some newer relationships around the Trump family are generating questions of their own.
Then, because apparently this story needed a family-tree subplot, there’s Donald Trump Jr.’s new wife, Bettina Anderson. Her late father, Harry Loy Anderson Jr., was president of Palm Beach National Bank & Trust, where Epstein banked beginning in the early 1990s. Released records reportedly show Epstein had at least six accounts there by 2002 and list Anderson as the primary officer. Anderson also approved two business-credit-card applications for Epstein-related companies. Calling him simply “Epstein’s personal banker” overstates what the records establish, but the banking relationship itself is real.
And somehow the wedding itself managed to create an entirely different eyebrow-raising money trail. Reporting says, Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with close ties to Vladimir Putin, paid hundreds of thousands of dollars toward the celebrations surrounding Don Jr. and Bettina’s wedding, including a private-island rental and fireworks. Don Jr. and Bettina confirmed Kremlev hosted two nights of celebrations, calling it an extraordinarily generous gift from a friend and rejecting suggestions of a political motive. ProPublica reports Kremlev appears to have developed his relationship with Don Jr. only relatively recently and has connections to Russian state-backed institutions.
The concentration of money, access and extraordinarily powerful acquaintances deserves scrutiny, particularly when the family occupying the White House is involved. House Oversight’s top Democrat, Rep. Robert Garcia, has requested records concerning Don Jr.’s relationship with Kremlev and the wedding payments, citing potential national-security and public-corruption concerns. We should be able to ask questions about powerful people without having to prove the answer before we’re allowed to ask.
And that brings us back to the people who too often become a footnote whenever this turns into celebrity-connections: the survivors.
More than a dozen survivors directly demanded that Black cooperate with Congress. Survivors have continued pushing lawmakers for disclosure and accountability, while lawmakers including Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie are pursuing the Epstein Files Transparency Act II, which would give survivors, state attorneys general and members of Congress standing to challenge DOJ in court over allegedly withheld material. While billionaires hire lawyers, subpoenas get challenged, and their game of choice is hide-and-seek: the powerful hide while no one’s counting, and the survivors refuse to hide, so they seek. And they’ve been re-building.
💙🦋Virginia Giuffre founded SOAR: Speak Out, Act, Reclaim, which continues her work supporting survivors of trafficking, sexual abuse and domestic violence with a survivor-led board. Survivor Sisters was created by and for survivors as a place to document the Epstein story, preserve survivor testimony and keep the fight for truth and accountability visible. The Survivors, Inc. was founded by survivors and their legal team to help sexual-assault and trafficking survivors with practical resources, trauma-informed life coaching, family support and navigating the legal and mental-health systems. And Epstein survivor Wendy Pesante founded The Jane Doe Foundation, which focuses on trauma recovery, prevention, advocacy, mentoring and helping people find support after abuse and exploitation.
Follow these organizations. Read what the survivors are saying. Share their testimony and resources. Pay attention when they go to Congress. Amplify their calls for transparency instead of letting another billionaire become the entire story. Survivor Sisters even has a Wall of Support where people can leave messages, and these groups provide ways to follow their advocacy and get involved.
The Epstein story has spent decades revolving around wealthy and powerful people. Maybe it’s long past time that the survivors get more of the microphone. And if powerful people would really like everybody to stop asking questions, they continue to have a fascinating strategy for accomplishing that: giving us more questions.
