Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Thursday, October 1, 2026, and Washington apparently celebrated the end of September by putting half the government through a restructuring meeting and sending the other half home. The senate might as well be considered a remote job now, besides the fact that no work is getting done.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced plans to cut the military’s roughly 800 general and flag-officer positions by 20% by January, create a new four-star drone command, and launch a future-warfare study involving Elon Musk, Newt Gingrich and Palmer Luckey. Apparently the Pentagon’s new strategy is: drones, billionaires and somehow Newt Gingrich is here too. Meanwhile, the Senate left Washington until after the midterms after several final measures failed to advance, including bills involving congressional stock trading and data-center electricity costs. Nothing says “unfinished business” quite like turning on the out-of-office reply.
And over at DOJ, the department filed a complaint against seven federal judges in Minnesota after they publicly discussed problems they said arose during the administration’s immigration crackdown. DOJ says their comments showed bias and wants them recused from DHS cases. The judges say speaking about judicial independence and the rule of law falls within their ethical rules. At this point, even the gavels are probably asking for legal representation.
While Washington sorts out who’s commanding the drones, arguing with the judges and remembering where Congress went, we thought you could use a laugh!! 😂
