Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and Washington spent Tuesday answering questions nobody particularly enjoyed being asked.
Former Special Counsel Jack Smith appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Republicans grilled him over his investigations involving Donald Trump and other Republicans. Smith defended his work, while GOP senators argued investigators overreached. In other words: everybody brought receipts, but apparently they’re shopping at completely different stores.
Meanwhile, Xi Jinping wrapped up a three-day state visit filled with ceremony, a state dinner and talks with Trump about trade, Taiwan, AI and Iran. The existing trade truce was extended, but the bigger disputes remain. Xi says the two leaders expect to meet twice more this year, so international diplomacy has officially reached the “we should totally do this again sometime” stage.
Then came America.gov, the administration’s new AI-powered portal designed to pull information from roughly 29,000 federal websites into one place, with plans to eventually handle services like passport renewals and Medicare enrollment. There was one tiny launch-day glitch: the chatbot gave political answers contradicting some Trump claims, including acknowledging Joe Biden won the 2020 election, before some political questions were restricted. Apparently the government built an AI and immediately needed to call HR.
While Washington sorts through subpoenas, state dinners and a chatbot discovering facts on its first day at work, we thought you could use a laugh!! 😂
