Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Saturday, September 12, 2026, and after the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, apparently the goodie bag included campaign signs, political promises and enough questionable arithmetic to keep a fact-checker’s job security in a good place.
The RNC packed more than 100 speakers into 12 hours of programming over two days. Speakers included Trump twice, JD Vance, Mike Johnson, Ted Cruz, RFK Jr., Scott Bessent, Todd Blanche, Mehmet Oz, Scott Turner, Donald Trump Jr., Karoline Leavitt and a parade of Republican Senate candidates.
Just as interesting were some of the people not onstage. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had no speaking slot, even as the convention doubled as an early showcase for possible 2028 contenders like Vance and Cruz. Senate Majority Leader John Thune was in Dallas but was not scheduled to speak, and Trump’s mention of him actually drew boos from part of the crowd. Melania Trump did not attend at all; the White House confirmed her absence beforehand but did not publicly give a specific reason. And some Republicans in competitive races kept their distance: Michigan Rep. Tom Barrett, for example, said through his campaign that attending a convention two months before Election Day was never under consideration because he needed to be with voters in his district, not because he was trying to distance himself from Trump.
There was even one especially awkward “absence”: Trump thanked Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine as though he were in the arena, and asked, “Where is General Caine?” Caine was actually several miles away speaking at a 9/11 memorial event. Pentagon rules generally bar active-duty troops from attending partisan political events in an official capacity, and that’s something a president should know as a pre-requisite.
Trump’s newest pitch during the RNC was a $5,000 “dividend” for every adult citizen only if Republicans win the House and Senate, with tariffs floated as the funding source. There are two problems with that. First, the roughly $1.2 trillion cost would take more than six years of current tariff revenue to cover. Second, this comes after earlier Trump-backed ideas for $2,000 tariff dividends and DOGE dividend checks that never materialized. There was also the $1,776 “warrior dividend” sent to roughly 1.5 million military members in December 2025. Trump described those bonuses as being made possible by tariffs. But FactCheck.org found the payments were actually funded entirely through a $2.9 billion congressional appropriation that had originally been designated for increased military housing allowances, not tariff revenue.
In other words, that money existed because Congress had already appropriated it for another purpose. The money he keeps describing is not sitting in a giant presidential piggy bank waiting to be cracked open: federal revenue goes into the government, Congress controls spending, and Washington is already spending more than it collects. So, when someone says “the money is there,” it’s fair to ask, “Where, exactly!?” Because apparently the tracking numbers aren’t available for the current or pre-existing checks.
He then expanded his check-gifting-demands, and elaborated that the money would “have” to be spent in America. It’s almost like he wants someone else to do the work of bringing money back to the U.S. for him. One of his favorite words: tariffs, not groceries, are among the topics punching holes in his own base. Holding out for 6 years, for an amount that might cover one month’s bills, is literally a stretch, and not something most Americans have the elasticity for.
Fox News and Newsmax often repeat Trump’s claims, giving the rhetoric a platform which allows their listeners to feel like, “I know something now!” Lately they’ve been supplying their viewers with a few factual numbers, instead of only rhetoric, but there’s still plenty of that to go around. The tariffs’ inability to cover the $1.2 trillion dividend-cost is one fact they decided to mention. We know the Maga base usually get’s their talking points from the Entertainment “news” networks, and we’re waiting for the day when Fox News and Newsmax either step up to the news plate, or drop the “news” identifier from their name. So when we hear any Maga, or Maga-lite, using these reasons to support Trump, we’ll know where they got it from, and hopefully know how to verbally combat it.
The dividend wasn’t the only convention claim getting a second look. FactCheck.org examined 13 major claim areas from Trump’s nearly two-hour speech and documented statements it found false, misleading, exaggerated or unsupported.
Here’s what got flagged (this only covers Trump, not any other speakers🤦♂️😂):
The $5,000 dividend: The math needs more than six years of current tariff revenue. Apparently the check is being mailed from the future.
Democratic socialism = communism: Different ideologies. Political science declined the merger.
$20 trillion in investment: Even the White House’s own speculative tally is far lower. Somewhere, $9 trillion is hiding with the checks.
“Largest tax cut in history”: It isn’t when measured against the size of the economy. “Largest ever” continues its exhausting career.
Roy Cooper and a murder: Trump distorted the facts to connect Cooper to a 2025 killing. Turns out saying someone’s name near a crime story does not make them responsible for it.
Record employment “by a lot”: More people are working, but the population also grew. Statistics have once again interrupted the victory lap.
Food prices are rapidly falling: Most aren’t. Grocery receipts remain annoyingly committed to evidence.
World’s cheapest prescription drugs: FactCheck.org found no evidence Americans now pay the lowest prices on Earth. Pharmacies apparently missed that memo.
Immigration: Trump said zero migrants entered illegally across the southern border for 15 months. Zero is not arbitrary, zero is zero, which crossings are not.
Oil and gas supremacy: U.S. production was already breaking records before this term. Petroleum also keeps receipts.
Abdul El-Sayed and 9/11: Trump connected him to Hasan Piker’s inflammatory remark even though El-Sayed explicitly rejected it. Guilt by political ZIP code is not evidence.
Trump Accounts make poor kids rich: Experts say that generally requires substantial additional contributions. Step one to escaping poverty: apparently have extra money.
“I won three times”: Trump won in 2016 and 2024 and lost in 2020. This fact-check may eventually qualify for Social Security.

So, that’s really the theme of the convention: the promises sound enormous, but the details have a habit of shrinking once somebody opens a calculator. Sometimes seeing the facts on paper help us all feel a little more sane, and hopefully holds a mirror up for MAGA so they can see they’ve got something on their face. Lies, they’ve got lies written all over their faces.

You guys are keeping the laughter in place, which is a great substitute for tears. I successfully managed to not have to listen to Trumpaloser. I heard plenty commentary and there was way too much clickbait on youtube, I hope the taxpayers were not paying for his obnoxious clickbait yesterday more clickbait to watch him taking his daily sleepy circus snooze than the actual dignified leaders. When is this nightmare going to be over ? Im ready to wake up to a healthy blue wave. Have they kidnapped the Muskrat and his Minions yet, to prevent another election steal.
