Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and apparently, in Washington, it is now Bring Your Own Bulldozer To Work Day. When Trump’s “re-naming” efforts fail to meet his expectations, he pivots. He won’t stop scheduling endless construction projects that serve as nothing more than an expensive, chaotic soundtrack for his nap-time ASMR. Clearly, as we all know, he’s not sleeping at night.🤣
Trump’s $400 million plus White House ballroom is moving forward again after the Supreme Court allowed construction to continue while the lawsuit plays out, even after lower courts raised serious questions about whether demolishing the East Wing and replacing it with a massive privately financed ballroom could proceed without congressional approval. Then there’s his proposed 250-foot triumphal arch near Arlington, but we might as well call it the triumphant-less arch. Add to the list the Trump-backed Kennedy Center overhaul, plans to remake public golf space at East Potomac Park, and because apparently no water-bodies are safe either, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
Trump personally championed a rapid makeover of the Reflecting Pool, we all know this story well, promising it would look better than ever. Instead, the project has battled bright green algae, damage to its new surface, repeated draining and repairs, millions more in spending, and now storm damage that flooded the work area and scattered fencing and debris. The administration has blamed vandals for some earlier damage, though the project has also experienced acknowledged contractor and construction problems. In other words, the reflecting pool is now reflecting something after all: the whole damn renovation strategy.
Presidents renovate things. This is bigger than renovation. The East Wing is gone. The Rose Garden has been remade. The ballroom keeps growing. The Kennedy Center is being transformed. A giant triumphal arch is proposed. A historic public golf course is being targeted for a championship makeover. And the Reflecting Pool has become an expensive construction saga. Taken together, it’s clear this isn’t maintaining the nation’s shared spaces, it’s one president trying to redesign Washington from his own faux-gold tastes all for himself and his buddies.
And here’s the part that makes the ballroom especially uncomfortable: wealthy individuals and major corporations helped finance it while questions continue about what access, influence, or government business some donors may have. That doesn’t automatically establish a quid pro quo. But the People’s House should not need a billionaire donor wall to explain who paid for the demolition crew. Someone, probably many individuals, need a harsh reminder that these buildings, monuments, and public spaces don’t belong to Donald Trump and his fantasies. They belong to the American people.
While we wait to see which national landmark gets a gold-plated jackhammer next, we thought you could use a laugh!! 😂
