Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Saturday, September 26, 2026, and America has officially reached the part of election season where apparently we need to check not only who is on the ballot, but which rulebook everyone is using.
On Friday, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration, for now, to resume an expanded federal SAVE database used to check voter citizenship, after lower courts raised privacy and accuracy concerns. On the very same day, the Court went the other direction in Missouri, blocking a Trump-backed congressional map from being swapped into an election that is already underway. And while everybody was busy locating their districts, the White House announced it was canceling nearly $1 billion Congress had already approved, using the rarely invoked and legally contested “pocket rescission” maneuver. Apparently checks and balances have become more of a group project where one kid keeps erasing everybody else’s answers.
The good news: people are already voting, courts are still hearing challenges, lawmakers are still challenging executive actions, and the machinery of democracy continues doing what machinery does best: making alarming noises while somebody searches for the manual.
While all that sorts itself out, we thought you could use a laugh!! 😂

The 2026 midterms are officially underway, and every Saturday we’ll keep track of where Americans can already cast a ballot.
NEW THIS WEEK:
Illinois: Early voting opened Thursday, Sept. 24. Election authorities can also begin mailing requested ballots.
ALREADY VOTING:
Minnesota: Voting began Sept. 18.
South Dakota: Early voting began Sept. 18.
Virginia: Early in-person voting began Sept. 18 and continues through Oct. 31.
Vermont: Early voting began Sept. 19.
That means voters in five states are now in the first wave of the 2026 general election, with many more states joining them in October. Dates, hours and locations can vary, so check your state or local election office before heading out.
