Hello, Danger Corps! It’s Monday, October 12, 2026, and Washington has apparently discovered the one thing harder than bringing back American jobs: explaining why the workers keep losing theirs.
Trump’s Russian diesel deal is already running into resistance from his own party. Six senators, including four Republicans, are urging the administration to reverse course, warning that buying Russian fuel could violate federal law and help finance Putin’s war in Ukraine. Energy experts aren’t convinced the deal will significantly lower prices, either. Meanwhile, American factory workers are feeling the consequences of Trump’s tariffs, with layoffs and closures becoming campaign issues in manufacturing communities. Apparently, the promised manufacturing comeback forgot to tell some of the factories. And in Michigan, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is taking on Republican Mike Rogers in a closely watched Senate race, where the political advertising is getting louder and the candidates are competing to define what change actually looks like. At least somebody remembered elections are supposed to involve choices.
With the midterms getting closer, voters have plenty of questions, and politicians have approximately 47 varieties of explanation.
