With Election Day just three days away, the campaign trail is delivering more tricks than treats, and somebody forgot to bring the candy! This is a PACKED Halloween-themed & memed letter, hope you all enjoy! 🎃
First up, South Carolina! CBS News has added the state’s Senate race to its battleground coverage after polling suggested a closer contest than many expected. Somebody check the candy bowl, because the political surprises keep coming! Meanwhile, Michigan Democrats are having their own haunted-house disagreement. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and former primary rival Haley Stevens are publicly clashing over campaign messaging and their differences on Israel, even after Stevens endorsed him. Nothing says Halloween like reopening a disagreement you thought was buried!
And with Election Day approaching, concerns about National Guard activity around election security are drawing attention. Reports of limited Guard assistance in certain locations have circulated alongside broader claims about military deployments. The important distinction? There is no confirmed nationwide deployment of troops to polling places, and federal law places strict limits on military involvement in elections. Voters have the right to cast their ballots without intimidation, regardless of the political noise surrounding them.
Of course, political disagreements, competing promises, and last-minute accusations aren’t exclusive to one party. They happen throughout election season, which is exactly why staying informed matters. A uniform, a rumor, or a dramatic headline doesn’t take away anyone’s voting rights. Check the facts, know your voting options, and remember that participating in democracy is something to feel confident about, not afraid of. Halloween may be full of tricks, but our rights aren’t costumes politicians get to take away!
And speaking of voting, Pope Leo XIV has submitted his Illinois mail ballot from the Vatican! Even the Pope found time to participate. Talk about taking your civic duties religiously! If he can get his ballot in from across the Atlantic, the rest of us can certainly make a plan to vote.

Put in the comments what you’re doing for Halloween! I put together little treat bags for the neighbor kids, with mixes of light up gadgets, candy varieties, mini Halloween notebooks, stickers, tattoos, Halloween stamps, and a printed message that says “Be Kind to Others, Be Kind to Yourself, Happy Halloween!” It’s in my bones to go overboard even when I feel like I’m already under water. It’s a gift and a curse (anyone else like the show Monk?!🤣) I think that’s the most Good Trouble thing we can do, it’s not only American, it’s Worldly. These kids deserve encouragement and effort from a fellow human. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, it matters who you are to others.🌞
That’s why this story from “Canadian Grandma” hit me. It’s a longer story so I posted it through galleries, so you may need to click on each photo to enlarge🤭, but she deserves the time!! Here’s the initial story, her work, and her follow-up of the community support, and the usual effort put in to that made the situation more clear. I hope you read the whole thing, I felt for her, still do, and absolutely love that she has support after being shut down by butthurt bullies. We’ve got enough of those, so standing up for someone else in these times matter.
